Harpers Ferry Center’s award-winning audiovisual productions
offer a voice and a vision for National Park Service interpretation
that informs and inspires the public. Voices from the past can speak,
inaccessible peaks can be climbed, and complex processes can be
revealed through this powerful medium.
AV programs range from large-format, surround-sound films to silent
exhibit videos; from oral histories to multichannel soundscapes;
from touch-screen interactive programs to expanded websites. In
collaboration with park staff and subject matter experts, audiovisual
producers plan, design and produce programs interpreting the significance
of park resources. Shows can be produced and delivered in a variety
of formats including high-definition video, standard-definition
video, 16mm and 35mm film and interactive multimedia. We also provide
foreign language audio tracks as well as accessibility features
such as captioning and audio descriptions.
HFC offers parks a wide range of additional AV services including
cost estimates, contract specifications, scopes of work, treatment
development, production planning, research, scriptwriting and review,
location filming, video editing, electronic graphics production
and web development. Audiovisual producers also act as technical
representatives (COTRs) on contracted projects, and can provide
access to a nationwide network of audiovisual and multimedia production
contractors through our Indefinite Delivery - Indefinite Quantity
(IDIQ) contracts. NPS IDIQ Contracts »
Harpers Ferry Center also maintains an extensive collection of
film and video footage and sound recordings that parks can access,
and provides transfer and duplication services in a variety of film,
video, audio and digital media formats.
The AV Equipment Services branch designs, installs, and
maintains audiovisual systems in theaters and as components of museum
exhibits throughout the parks. The branch also works with the audiovisual
depot system to maintain standard equipment with user-friendly replacements
that keep audiovisual programs in the National Parks up and running.
