HFC Commissioned Art Collection

To enhance the interpretive message for sites throughout the National Park Service, Harpers Ferry Center purchases two and three dimensional artwork and graphics. The art is used to develop, produce, revise or rehabilitate the National Park Service’s interpretive messages to the visiting public. The art is integrated with other information for audiovisual programs, exhibits, interactive programs, publications, and wayside exhibits.

Harpers Ferry Center provides an online database of over 10,000 images from the Commissioned Art Collection. The database provides a visual reference tool to identify artwork and graphics according to park name, artist name, artwork type, or interpretive theme. Because the National Park Service often acquires only one-time or limited use rights for pieces of artwork, however, the database is not available to the public. You must be a National Park Service employee using the NPS computer network to access the collection.
