Be prepared by checking local weather reports and forecasts before traveling to the national seashore.

Weather Trends

The weather in Florida and Mississippi is similar with a hot-season lasting for approximately four months, from mid-May through the end of September. Average daily high temperatures during this season exceed 84°F. Daily low temperatures during this season average 77°F.

The cool-season for park areas lasts approximately three months, December through February. Average daily high temperatures during this season are below 66°F. Daily low temperatures during this season average 45°F.

Humid conditions are prevalent during most of the year, making it important for visitors to consider the heat index as it directly relates to the human body's comfort. Visitors will feel warmer in humid conditions. The heat index, also know as the apparent temperature, is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.

Severe Weather

Dynamic weather conditions are always possible throughout the national seashore. From afternoon thunderstorms, to tornados and major hurricanes, the gulf coast is subject to severe weather year-round. Visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions and to seek shelter or evacuate park areas.
