October 17 – 24, 2009

Saturday, October 17:  

10:30 a.m. Nature Walk “The Singing Sands.”Discover the Great Sand Dunes symphony of unique, audible geological processes, ‘singing sand phenomenon,’ and lightning-struck sand.  Dunes Parking Lot. 40 minutes.

2:30 p.m.Kids Program.  Hands-on learning activities.  All ages welcome.   Dunes Lot. 45 minutes.

 

Sunday, October 18:

10:30 a.m. Nature Walk “Colorado’s Beach.” This mountain of sand often supports seasonal stream flow including waves.  How can this be at 8,000 feet above sea level ?  Dunes Parking Lot. 45 minutes.

Upper Sand Creek Lake  

Did You Know?
Alpine lakes such as Upper Sand Creek Lake are part of the mountain watershed of Great Sand Dunes, and provide a dramatic contrast to the stark dunefield.
