Glen Canyon NRA and Grand Canyon NP Host Project Odyssey
The National Park Service is partnering with Wounded Warrior Project to provide a Project Odyssey retreat at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Grand Canyon National Park, October 11-15, 2010. This partnership helps severely injured military members mend physically, mentally, and spiritually through the power of nature and recreation.
Project Odyssey, an outdoor rehabilitative retreat that combines adventure challenges with opportunities for peer support and group processing, was created to support warriors in their recovery from combat stress. During this retreat, warriors will have the opportunity to fish for bass in Lake Powell, hike along the north rim of the Grand Canyon and raft the Colorado River. Local sponsors for this trip include ARAMARK, Colorado River Discovery, and Lake Powell Outfitters.
Each warrior will also receive a National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Access Pass. This free lifetime pass is available to all U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities and can be obtained in person at any National Park Service site.
