Lightning Ignites Lockwood Fire at Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve
An Alaska Fire Service detection flight discovered the lightning-ignited Lockwood Fire on Wednesday afternoon, July 15, 2015. The fire is burning in a limited protection area and has been placed in monitor status.

Fire Ban Lifted at Gates of the Arctic
Effective immediately, open fires may be built as allowed by park regulations on all Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve lands.

National Park Service Prohibits Open Fires
Effective immediately, National Park Service officials are prohibiting the use of all open fires and activities that unduly increase the fire danger in Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve and Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve due to the current high temperatures, lack of recent precipitation, and strong winds.

Prohibition of Unmanned Aircraft in National Parks
National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis today signed a policy memorandum that directs superintendents nationwide to prohibit launching, landing, or operating unmanned aircraft on lands and waters administered by the National Park Service.
