FDR and his wife Eleanor were not first cousins as some might think, but fifth cousins, once removed. They both shared the common ancestor, Nicholas Roosevelt, born in 1658. He was FDR’s great-great-great-great-grandfather and Eleanor’s great-great-great-great-great-grandfather.
