Nature & Science Located in rural Montana and North Dakota the park lacks serious environmental threats. Through the Inventory and Monitoring initiative we are developing our baseline data sets for natural resources. Issues of concern are native prairie restoration, exotic plants and the accelerated erosion of the south bank of the Missouri River. |

Northern Plains tribes made up the entire bulk of trade at Fort Union. Camps usually came in the spring to trade buffalo robes and furs for trade goods. This trade did continue throughout the year even though spring was considered trade season.
