Although Fort McHenry is a National Monument and Historic Shrine, the 42-acre park abounds in small animals and birds. Many visitors enjoy the pleasures of walking the Sea Wall Trail and observing the squirrels, rabbits and birds.

Pvt. William Williams, a run-away slave, joined the U.S. Artillery and defended Fort McHenry. He was severely wounded during the battle and died two weeks later.
