La Crosse Municipal Airport, La Crosse, Wisconsin

Effigy Mounds is 65 miles south of La Crosse. Follow state highway 35 south to Prairie du Chien.  Turn and cross the Mississippi River on U.S. Highway 18 to Marquette, Iowa. Travel 3-miles north of Marquette, Iowa on state highway 76 (The Great River Road).



Dane County Regional Airport, Madison, Wisconsin

Effigy Mounds National Monument is located in territory that was hotly contested by Indians and the American government. In 1832, the U.S. forced the Sauk and Fox tribes to cede land south of the “Neutral Ground” along the Mississippi River, which included the lands of the present National Monument.
