The National Park Service (NPS) invites the public to attend a scoping meeting on the Denali National Park and Preserve Headquarters Master Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA), which will take place on Tuesday, May 1 at the Murie Science and Learning Center from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Park planning team members are seeking ideas from the public to consider as part of the environmental assessment. The Headquarters Master Plan EA will propose several alternatives for implementing components of the 1997 Entrance Area and Road Corridor Development Concept Plan that are in the headquarters area, as well as alternatives for implementing the recommendations of a Cultural Landscape Report for the Headquarters Historic District. The Master Plan will address vehicle circulation, pedestrian circulation, office and residential space, landscaping and lighting, parking, and visitor opportunities in the headquarters area. Among other goals, the Master Plan will provide a blueprint for enhancing visitor opportunities to experience the Headquarters Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been the subject of restoration efforts over the past several years. The meeting will be conducted in an open house format so that members of the public may come anytime between 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. to view maps and descriptions of the project, speak with NPS planners, and provide written or verbal feedback. For more information, contact Charlie Loeb, park planner, at (907) 683-6416 or (907) 733-9122. Information will also be posted on the NPS Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website at https://parkplanning.nps.gov prior to the meeting. -NPS- |
