Ponderosa Boat Ramp and Inspection Station to Open July 3

Summer is in full swing at Blue Mesa Reservoir and the National Park Service will soon open another boat ramp for even more access to fishing and boating fun.

The Ponderosa boat ramp will open for the summer starting Thursday, July 3rd with ramp hours from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.  Inspections will be available at Ponderosa each Thursday through Monday. The ramp and inspection station will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The Lake Fork, Elk Creek, Iola and Stevens Creek ramps and inspection stations will continue to perform the free inspections daily from 5:30 am to 9:00 pm.

These summer hours will remain in effect until Tuesday, September 2nd as long as water levels remain high enough to safely allow launching and retrieval at these sites.   Fall inspection sites and hours will be announced later in the season. All ramps are closed outside of inspection hours.

As with all ramps at Blue Mesa Reservoir, Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) boat inspections are required before launch and after use for trailered watercraft. The AIS inspections serve to educate boaters about the AIS threat to Blue Mesa and why it is so important to keep plants, animals, mud, and water from entering or leaving Blue Mesa.

As always, visit the Curecanti Aquatic Invasive Species webpage go.nps.gov/mussel for the latest information.

"Educated boaters and anglers prevent the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species by coming to recreate with cleaned, drained, and dried boats and gear. We educate boaters and inspect boats to keep Blue Mesa Reservoir the beautiful destination that it is now and to keep it that way for future generations", said AIS Coordinator Gene Seagle.
