Summer is right around the corner and the National Park Service is getting ready for another great summer at Blue Mesa Reservoir. Starting Friday, May 23rd, the hours for mandatory Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) boat inspections will expand at the Elk Creek and Lake Fork inspection stations. The new hours will be from 5:30 am to 9:00 pm. The Iola inspection station will open on Friday, May 23rd, with inspections available from 5:30 am to 9:00 pm. These summer hours will remain in effect until Tuesday, September 2nd as long as water levels remain high enough to safely allow launching and retrieval at these sites. The Steven's Creek and Ponderosa inspection stations may open later in the season, depending on staffing levels. Watch for announcements as the season progresses. As always, visit the Curecanti Aquatic Invasive Species webpage Go.nps.gov/mussel for the latest information. Curecanti National Recreation Area Superintendent Connie Rudd reminds area boaters that, "Boat inspections help protect Blue Mesa Reservoir from the many kinds of plants and animals that move on dirty and wet boats. Remember to keep your boat and fishing gear Clean, Drained and Dry to stop the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species, including zebra mussels". |
