Priscilla Jones
Program Support Specialist
Ms. Priscilla Jones came to the National
Park Service, National Capital Region in February 1995. Her
tenure began at National Capital Parks-East as the Receptionist
and acting secretary under the supervision of the Superintendent
and his Personal Assistant.
In 1996, she became Administrative Assistant to the Chief
of Interpretation for National Capital Parks-East. The head
Administrative Assistant for all main park units under the
supervision of the Chief of Interpretation: Kenilworth Aquatic
Gardens, Fredrick Douglass National Historical Site and Fort
DuPont Activity Center.
In 1998, Ms. Jones was promoted to the Office of the Regional
Director, National Capital Region, National Park Service as
Secretary/Personal Assistant to the Deputy Regional Director.
One of her duties involved being the Congressional Liaison
for the National Capital Region and the Congress to handle
supporters' correspondences regarding the National Park Service.
Ms. Jones received a letter of commendation from Senator Robert
Ney for outstanding customer service recognition. She also
monitored and controlled correspondences for all 14 units
within the National Capital Region and maintained a rapport,
providing leadership direction for other secretaries to the
14 Superintendents under the supervision of the Regional Director
and Deputy Regional Director.
She began shadowing the Community Outreach Officer as acting
manager, in 2002 for the purpose of assisting with community
events in the surrounding areas monitored by the National
Capital Region in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia
and became the Community Outreach Officer in 2004.
As Community Outreach Officer, Ms. Jones monitored the Welfare
to Work Initiative mandated by the President of the United
States, creating a relationship with the Department of Social
Services to begin a partnership with their welfare to work
program. She provided training and work experience for approximately
15 individuals within the welfare to work program. On behalf
of the Regional Director, she assisted in finding permanent
employment and helping individuals return to accredited schools
to finish their GEDs, high school diplomas and entering college.
Ms. Jones continued a partnered relationship with outside
agencies to provide a community support around surrounding
regions preserved by National Capital Region. Some of these
organizations consisted of Bridges to Friendship, National
Council for Negro Women, Golden Triangle Bid, Friends of Fort
DuPont, Downtown Bid, and Friends of Meridian Hill. In addition,
Ms. Jones created recreation use for the National Capital
Region by operating concerts during the summer for residents
in our community with partners to carry out the National Park
Service mission of recreation enjoyment and providing policies
and regulations for the preservation of Federal parkland.
Ms. Jones has worked with the District of Columbia's Office
of Emergency Preparedness, Mayor's Office, Saint Elizabeth
Hospital, Domestic Violence, United States Park Police, non-profit,
local and state government and various private organizations.
When times changed, Ms. Jones was placed, where she is presently
operating, as a Program Support Specialist, providing Budget,
Personnel, Contracting and Cooperative Agreement guidance
for the Center of Urban Ecology, in December 2005.
