Shawn Carter, Ph.D.

Ecologist

Shawn Carter received a B.S. (1994) degree in Natural Resources from Cornell University, a M.S. (1996) degree in Wildlife from Virginia Tech, and a Ph.D. (2003) degree in Ecology from SUNY, College of Environmental Science & Forestry, in Syracuse, NY. Shawn coordinates and administers the National Capital Region's (NCR) Inventory & Monitoring Program at the Center for Urban Ecology (CUE) to provide guidance and support to park managers. He is also responsible for the development and implementation of long term ecological strategies through scientific collaboration and interagency partnerships.

My scientific training covers a broad range of organisms: butterfiles, freshwater turtles, salamanders, ground spiders, ground beetles, and silphid beetles. Specific areas of interest include: reserve design, biodiversity theory, and the role of spatial scale and habitat complexity in determining patterns of community structure.
