Fort Oglethorpe, GA:Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is pleased to announce that the Lafayette Road resurfacing project has been completed and Lafayette Road will open for normal operations beginning Friday, June 19, 2015 at 9:00 A.M. Detour route signs and road barricades will be removed at this time.

"We are pleased that park visitors can now resume the normal route for touring the battlefield," stated park superintendent Brad Bennett. "As a safety reminder for all drivers, please obey posted speed limits and be aware of other visitors exploring the park on foot, horses, and bicycles."

As a reminder, commercial truck traffic is prohibited inside the national park, including LaFayette Road; commercial truck drivers seeking a North-South Route through the area must use the 4-lane U.S. Highway 27 to the west of the park. East-West traffic that is greater than 5 tons must use Georgia State Route 2 via Battlefield Parkway rather than McFarland Gap Road or Reed's Bridge Road through the national park.
