Chamizal National Memorial Superintendent F. Gus Sanchez is pleased to announce the lineup and other important information for this year's 39th Annual International Siglo de Oro Festival. The Festival's main stage performances will take place Wednesday, February 26th through Sunday, March 2nd, 2014 in the National Memorial's Theater.

On Tuesday, February 25th from 4-6 p.m., there will be a public reception to honor this year's Festival's visual and performing artists and to provide our community members with the opportunity to meet and interact with these talented artists and performers prior to the Festival performances starting on Wednesday, February 26th. In addition to the Siglo de Oro Festival artists, the National Park Service will also recognize and honor the seven other local artists who are currently exhibiting in the Memorial's indoor and outdoor galleries. The recognition ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Memorial's Theater.

On Wednesday, February 26th at 7 p.m. Morfeo Teatro from Spain will perform La escuela de los vicios by Francisco de Quevedo at 7 p.m. The plot of this theatrical adaptation of Quevedo's novel features a devil who plans to corrupt two basically good but naïve men. Come see what happens as his schemes unfold.

On Thursday, February, 27th at 7 p.m. Morfeo Teatro will perform La lozana andaluza by Francisco Delicado.  The author has written himself into this play and the scenes portrayed are based on his observations of the many and varied skills of the vibrant Lozana, including her roles helping others as a midwife, a courtesan, a traditional healer, and more. While this work is set in Rome during the early 16th century, it features comedic moments that contrast against the darker backdrop of that period in history. Please note that this play does have some scenes that are more suitable for mature audiences, such as when portraying Lozana's role as a courtesan and madame.

On Friday, February 28th at 7 p.m., Cambalache Teatro and Escuela Superior de Arte Dramatico (ESAD) de Murcia from Spain will collaborate to perform De fuera vendra…quien de casa nos echara by Agustin Moreto. Come see this comedy unfold as two young soldiers attempt to change their captain's orders – all because they fall in love.

On Saturday, March 1st at 7 p.m., Cambalache Teatro and ESAD de Murcia will perform El secreto a voces by Pedro Calderon de la Barca. Another tale involving love and the complications of romance – an arranged marriage, hidden identities, a secret code, and the clever inventiveness of thwarted lovers all combine to add comedy to this tale of romantic challenges and machinations.

On Sunday, March 2nd at 5 p.m., Cambalache Teatro and ESAD de Murcia will close the 2014 International Siglo de Oro Drama Festival with a performance of Puro Lope. In this play, the playwright Lope de Vega is a main character. He uses some of his best known scenes as a defense of his life. Lope de Vega was the most prolific playwright of Spain's Siglo de Oro and a contemporary of England's most famous playwright, William Shakespeare.

Festival Ticket Information: Tickets will be FREE this year and available on a first come, first served basis. They will be available beginning 90 minutes prior to curtain each day for that night's performance only; starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday – Saturday evenings for 7 p.m. curtain time, and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday for 5 p.m. curtain time. Must be present to receive tickets for each night's performance.

After you pick up your tickets, please enjoy the River People exhibit in the Memorial's Los Paisanos Gallery and the annual Siglo de Oro Art Exhibition in the Abrazos Gallery in the Visitor Center while you wait for the Theater doors to open at 30 minutes prior to curtain time.

We are looking forward to this year's Siglo de Oro Festival on February 26-March 2!
