Change of Flags

The National Park Service will reenact the change of flags between the Spanish and the British in 1763, on Saturday May 3rd at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. Visitors will see the changing of the guard, the massing of the Spanish and British Troops, the exchange of the Keys and the changing of the flags. The event will be carried out by the Spanish Garrison, the 60th Royal Americans of St. Augustine, 42nd Highland Reg’t and special detachments of the Royal Navy. Re-enactors dressed in the traditional clothes of the period will also be present representing the towns people throughout the day. The National Park Service and the volunteers of the Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas National Monuments are sponsoring the day’s activities.
