Since 1961, Cape Cod National Seashore neighbors and visitors have captured countless pictures of family and friends enjoying and exploring the national seashores' special places. During this year's 50th anniversary celebration, national seashore staff invites you to participate in an electronic photo album project by sharing your pictures and reminiscences with others. Many people hold special memories of time spent at Cape Cod National Seashore. This website, sponsored by The Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore, will provide the opportunity for the public to view and share photos and stories of their experiences at Cape Cod National Seashore over the last 50 years. "The Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore are very excited to support their innovated efforts and be the sponsor for the web based National Seashore Memories Album," said Dick Spokes, President of The Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore. The website will be available to new postings starting May 1 until the end of September, but will be available for viewing through 2011.Images should contain people and a recognizable feature, overlook, or sign that connects the image to Cape Cod National Seashore. To visit the 50th Anniversary Memories Album go to www.fccns.org. "The designation of Cape Cod as a National Seashore by President Kennedy was a gift to all the American people," said Superintendent George Price. "This photo album is also a gift to all past, present, and future visitors of the seashore." Since 1987, Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore has partnered with the national seashore to raise awareness of the park's resources and issues; provide educational programs; fund important projects, like the furnishing of Old Harbor Life-Saving Station; and provide volunteers for trail and natural resource projects. The organization will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year. For additional information about the 50th Anniversary Photo Album, contact Event Ranger Molly Williams at (508) 957-0704. More anniversary activities are posted to the Cape Cod National Seashore website, www.nps.gov/caco. --NPS-- |
