Fire Management Plan Update

The National Park Service (NPS) is soliciting public input on the proposed update to the Fire Management Plan for New River Gorge National River, Gauley River National Recreation Area, and Bluestone National Scenic River.

The National Park Service has prepared a Scoping Document that explains the purpose and need for updating the current Fire Management Plan and describes three preliminary alternatives that will be analyzed in an environmental assessment. Any area residents, business owners, local officials, organizational representatives, and others interested in this project are encouraged to download the Scoping Document and, after your review, submit comments. Comments can be expressed as concerns, thoughts, and suggestions for the proposed fire suppression actions and mechanical and prescribed fire treatments described in the Scoping Document.

The Scoping Document is available online at the NPS Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/neri. Choose “NERI Scoping Document_FMP/EA” under “Current Projects.”

There are two ways to submit comments after your review of the Scoping Document:

Online
The preferred method of comment is on the NPS planning web site at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/neri.
