Raceway Bridge Closed for Replacement

Starting September 15, 2025, the pedestrian bridge across the raceway between Old Slater Mill and Wilkinson Mill will be closed for construction. Work is expected to continue through mid-November 2025.

The Raceway Bridge is located inside the historic site between the two mills. This is not the Main Street Bridge that crosses the Blackstone River.

The non-historic bridge is being replaced to improve visitor safety and site accessibility.

What this means for your visit:

  • The Raceway Bridge will be closed during construction.
  • Old Slater Mill remains open during its regular operating hours.

How to access the site:

Please use one of the alternative entrances shown on the map

  • Parking lot entrance – Accessible route to Old Slater Mill, Wilkinson Mill, and the Sylvanus Brown House
  • Roosevelt Avenue entrance near Wilkinson Mill – Accessible route to the park grounds
  • Main Street Bridge & Roosevelt Avenue entrance – Pedestrian access via stairs

We appreciate your patience while we complete this important project to improve accessibility at the park.
