Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is located in south central Virginia approximately 95 miles west of Richmond.

The main Visitor Parking Area is located on VA Rt. 24, 2 miles (4.8 km) northeast of the town of Appomattox, VA. The closest airport is in Lynchburg, VA, 25 miles (40.3 km) west.

Tour groups are welcome and bus parking is available at the site. Groups are requested to contact the park for reservations at least 30 days prior to arrival. 434-352-8987 x 31.

Travelers Using GPS

As Appomattox Court House NHP does not have a registered street address it can be problematic using GPS units to find this park.  For example, UPS & FedEx deliveries simply use the physical address 'Highway 24' but that is not usually specific enough for GPS.  We recommend one of the following options for GPS users:

On April 10, 1865 Generals Lee and Grant met a second time at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. At that second meeting General Lee requested that his men be given evidence that they were paroled prisoners - to protect them from arrest or harassment. 28,231 parole passes were issued to Confederates.
