Greeneville TN: The National Park Service announced today that the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site has created a new way to tour both the historic site and the Town of Greeneville with your cell phone. The tour is easy to access by dialing 423-278-5555 and then follow the given directions. 

The program will be available September 1 in celebration of Johnson’s arrival to Greeneville in 1826. The tour was designed to learn about the park after business hours and to reach a new generation of park visitors. Superintendent Watts stated that the project began last year as part of the Andrew Johnson Bicentennial Centennial “Road to the Whitehouse”. It is very exciting to have this project finished and to provide another way for our visitors to learn about the wonderful historical resources in our community.

The tour consists of 10 stops located throughout Greeneville including Harmony Cemetery, Dickson William Mansion, Train Depot, Wesley Cemetery and the sites that make up the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site. The stops are unique with music, sound effects and an historical recording of President Johnson’s great grand daughter, Mrs. Margret Johnson Paterson Bartlett discussing the Homestead. A driving guide has been created to use with the tour and is available at the Visitor Center.
