Air Quality
 

Located at the summit unit of Allegheny Portage Railroad NHS is an air monitoring station which collects rain and snowfall to measure acidic and mercury air pollutants. Precipitation is collected weekly and analyzed by the PA Atmospheric Deposition Monitoring Network and the National Atmospheric Deposition Program's Mercury Deposition Network. Results are published in annual reports.

Did You Know?
The Conemaugh Viaduct was used by trains even after the Portage Railroad closed. The Johnstown Flood of 1889 washed the original viaduct away, but a replacement was completed within 3 days of the flood.
