Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument
Things To Know Before You Come

Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument has a modern visitor center where you will begin your visit. The visitor center has an exhibit room and a bookstore, and you can view the award-winning 10 minute film about the park. Outside the visitor center, look for butterflies in the small butterfly garden and look at the plants that the American Indians grew.

TOURS

Tours are given at 10 AM and at 2 PM to the flint quarries. Tours generally take 1 ½ to 2 hours. The hike is one mile long, and has a 150 foot elevation gain (equivalent to a 15-story building). The tours are led by a ranger or volunteer, and begin at the Alibates Flint Quarries visitor center. If you want to go on a tour, please call 806-857-3151 (Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM) to make a reservation.

Bring water for each person in your party. You should consider bringing a hat and sunscreen as there is no shade other than some shade shelters along the way. Please do not wear sandals and open-toed shoes on the tour; the flint can be sharp, and covers the ground at the top of the mesa.
