All Open Fires Prohibited in Katmai National Park and Preserve, Alagnak Wild River, and Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve
KING SALMON, Alaska - Effective immediately, Katmai National Park and Preserve, Alagnak Wild River, and Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve are prohibiting the use of all open fires in the park and preserves due to high fire danger.

A DeHavilland Beaver float plane lands on the Alagnak Wild River.

In June 1927 pilot Russell Merrill of Anchorage Air Transport flew a Travel Air to Lockanok cannery at the mouth of the Alagnak Wild River. This first airplane landing in the Bristol Bay region would effectively lead to a new era of air transport for this formerly inaccessible part of Alaska.
