On July 21, 1861, two armies clashed for the first time on the fields overlooking Bull Run. Heavy fighting swept away any notion of a quick war. Climate

Summers are hot and humid; winters can be cold with high winds. Precipitation is variable year-round with occasional snowfall. Good walking shoes and layered clothing are recommended when visiting the park or hiking the trails.
