As of Friday, Aug.10, the Dakota Hill Fire is showing some fire activity inside the perimeter of the “East” Fire, located in the North Fork area. Fire activity may include isolated torching trees possible smoke columns rising several hundred feet above ground level. As temperatures increase and humidity lowers, fire activity is expected to increase as pockets or islands of unburned fuels ignite within the fire perimeter.

The activity is within Zion National Park (north of Orderville Canyon) and well within the containment lines. The Orderville Canyon canyoneering route remains open to the public, although users should use caution for possible rock and loose debris fallout from the mesa top above.

Smoke columns will be visible throughout the day, with smoke settling into the canyon bottoms during the night. At this time, minimal visibility impacts are anticipated from the smoke.

Local fire personnel will continue to monitor fire activity and be available to take any suppression actions, as needed.
