Zion is looking for an environmentally-minded, motivated volunteer to assist the park’s Green Team efforts through various projects, helping the park to further reduce waste and energy use, and to provide input to enable greater sustainability.
The volunteer will assist a staff member responsible for park recycling program: collecting & sorting materials for pickup, tracking of recycled materials, and setting up new recycling locations.
This volunteer will gain valuable experience in green technology with new and ongoing solar power projects in Zion National Park. This will involve assisting park staff with planning and logistics for five solar projects, researching and gathering information, obtaining specifications, and working with contractors. Volunteer may assist with installation, inspection, and maintenance of these solar panel projects. The position will include various other projects and duties as assigned.
Physical/environmental demands include working outside in extreme weather conditions (100+ degrees), stooping, and heavy lifting (must be able to safely lift up to 40 lbs.) Protective equipment (goggles and gloves) will be provided.
In-park housing is available (32 hours/week minimum). A reimbursement of $10/day worked is available to offset meal costs.
This position requires the wearing of a volunteer uniform (shirt and hat), along with any needed protective equipment.
A background check is required for this position. Must have valid state driver's license. Personal vehicle recommended.
