September 28-29: Before the Siege: When the British Army Occupies Yorktown
Saturday and Sunday, September 28th and 29th, Colonial National Historical Park invites you to the historic village of Yorktown for a glimpse into its Revolutionary past. Yorktown, a former Colonial seaport, hosted an occupying army under Lord Cornwallis, his Britannic Majesty’s commander in the southern colonies. His army, better than eight thousand in number, will call Yorktown home from early August, 1781, until the British surrender two and a half months later on the 19th of October; an event of historical, world-changing proportion.

During this two-day event, re-enactors portraying His Lordship’s soldiers, local town’s people, loyalists and British sailors will again occupy Yorktown. Demonstrations will abound throughout Main Street in Yorktown, showcasing ironworking, leatherworking, British tactical demonstrations including musketry and cannon, and an accurate portrayal of soldier and civilian life during the occupation. Artillery will take at the Yorktown Battlefield including Royal Artillery on Saturday at 12:15; 1:15; 2:15; 3:15
