The experience of finding parking in Yellowstone can vary depending on your location and the time of day. Sometimes you'll pull into a spot quickly and other times you might circle a lot repeatedly waiting for your luck to change. In past summers, we've gathered data about when our major parking lots are full across the park. Check the busy times and seasons for the lots below and plan your trip accordingly. (Many parking lots are not included on this page because we don't have fill time data for every lot.)
Mammoth Hot Springs Area
The Boiling River is located in the northern part of Yellowstone, just south of the North Entrance and north of Mammoth Hot Springs. In the summer the parking can be challenging. Consult the table below to check for details.
The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River, the Upper and Lower Falls of the Yellowstone, Uncle Tom's Trail, and the Canyon Visitor Education Center are just a few attractions located in the Canyon area. Midway Geyser Basin Area
Midway Geyser Basin contains Grand Prismatic Hot Springs and Excelsior Geyser. From the Fairy Falls parking area you can take a trail that overlooks Grand Prismatic Hot Springs. During the summer months the parking can be challenging at these locations. Check the tables below for lighter and busier parking times.
Norris Geyser Basin
Old Faithful AreaOld Faithful Geyser and the Old Faithful Inn, are of course, located in the Old Faithful area. In addition there is the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center and lodges and shops. It's a busy busy place and in the summer can be challenging to find parking. Check the tables below for lighter and busier parking times.
