Refer to the availability table before contacting the Central Backcountry Office to obtain a backcountry permit.
All backcountry permits are being issued remotely through the Central Backcountry Office via phone and email. Permits are available no earlier than 2-days before the start of your trip.
To obtain a backcountry permit: Call the Central Backcountry Office at 307-344-2160 (no earlier than 2-days prior to your trip). Before calling, you may email a copy of your completed Backcountry Permit Application to speed up the process. Backcountry office staff will review backcountry regulations and safety information, collect the backcountry permit fee, and email you a copy of your backcountry permit after we speak with you.
- Do not submit your backcountry permit application earlier than 2-days prior to your trip.
- Permits are available from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. Permits will not be issued after 4:00 pm.
- Advanced reservations (trip start date is more than 2-days away) for backcountry permits use a different application and are accepted by mail or fax only. The fee for making an advanced reservation is $25.
