YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK NEWS RELEASE

Yellowstone Rangers Conducted Traffic Safety Checkpoints

Yellowstone National Park rangers conducted traffic safety checkpoints in the park on June 14, June 29, and June 30, 2014.

Rangers were looking for traffic violations, safety violations, and impaired drivers. A total of 328 drivers were contacted with ten people receiving citations and four people arrested for various violations, including driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The National Park Service is committed to safety and safe driving in the park. With more than 300 miles of paved roads, Yellowstone’s driving conditions can be extremely challenging due to high traffic volume, rapidly-changing weather conditions, and visitors and wildlife on the roadways.

Visitors are reminded that federal law requires the occupants of vehicles to wear seatbelts when driving on all park roads.

The checkpoints were conducted with the assistance of the Gallatin County DUI Task Force and local law enforcement agencies.
