Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield to host
Veterans Luminary Tour on November 13
Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield invites the public to attend a new event called Veterans Luminary Tour on Saturday, November 13 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting at our Visitors Center located at 6424 West Farm Road 182, Republic, MO.
This event is a combination of the well-known events of Moonlight Tour and the Luminary Tour and is in honor of those who fought and died at the Battle of Wilson’s Creek. Living Historians will transport visitors back in time through recreated scenes at several stops along the Tour Road. Over 2500 luminaries which will be placed along the Tour Road represent all the soldiers killed, missing, or wounded from the Battle of Wilson’s Creek. Each scene will occur every 20 minutes with the first beginning at 5:20 p.m.
The Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation will be at Tour Road Stop 3 along with Patriotic and Period live music. America’s National Park bookstore will also have a temporary store at the same stop. There will be limited items for sale and cash is the preferred payment method due to the location. Portable restrooms will be available at Stop 3 and 5 on the Tour Road.
The Visitor Center will be closed to the public to ease traffic congestion for the event, but we encourage you to come back and tour our newly renovated museum and visitor center during normal business hours. The last vehicle will be admitted into the park at 9 p.m. and the vehicles will need to exit the park by 10:00 p.m. The event may be cancelled due to weather conditions. The Park will monitor weather conditions leading up to the event, and any notice will be posted on the park’s website and Facebook page.
The Tour Road will close to the public at noon on November 13th for placement of the luminaries. Please try and carpool as much as possible due to the lack of parking along the Tour Road. Also remember to practice social distancing to keep everyone safe.
Please come back and tour our newly renovated Visitors Center. We have touchscreen kiosks, interactive maps, artillery pieces, long and short arms, and the original Lyon bed on display
Administered by the National Park Service, Wilson's Creek National Battlefield preserves the site of the first major battle of the Civil War in the West. The Confederate victory on August 10, 1861, focused greater national attention on the war in Missouri, leading to greater federal military action.
About the National Park Service: More than 20,000 National Park Service employees care for America's 419 national parks and work with communities across the nation to help preserve local history and create close-to-home recreational opportunities.
