Perennial forb 4 to 12 inches tall with pinkish-violet tulip-like flowers. Known as the first flower of spring, this is South Dakota’s state flower. A tea prepared from pasqueflowers was used by Plains Indians to speed childbirth and ease the discomfort of menstruation.
