Smooth Sumac is the most common sumac. It is the only tree or shrub species native to all 48 contiguous states of the United States.

Smooth Sumac is browsed by large animals and birds and small animals including grouse, mourning doves, pheasant, and cottontail rabbits, use sumac as a food source and for cover.
