NPS Photo Archive

After removal of the corrals in 1949/50, an agreement with the State of South Dakota was made which allowed the Wind Cave bison to be baited into Custer State Park (CSP) where the animals were slaughtered and processed. 80% of the meat was given to the State as payment for processing, and 20% was given to various Native American Tribes.
