Current Road, Trail, and Campground Conditions

Since conditions throughout the park can change rapidly and unexpectedly, we recommend you please call the Visitor Center at (530) 246-1225 for the most up-to-date information on park conditions. As of 6/12/2015 the following conditions are:

Road Closures:

South Fork Mountain Lookout Road

Shasta Bally Road closed at the gate above Sheep Camp

Peltier Valley Road at Peltier Bridge Campground and Brandy Creek Road

South Shore Drive

Brandy Creek Rd.

Beach & Picnic Area Closures:

Brandy Creek Beach parking lot (accessible by foot)

Facilities & Service Area Closures:

Trail Closures:

Crystal Creek Water Ditch Trail

James K. Carr Trail half-way above the base of Whiskeytown Falls

Campground Area Closures:

Crystal Creek primitive sites

Brandy Creek primitive sites.

Sheep Camp primitive sites until Brandy Creek Rd reopens

Other Park Closures:

Road Closures:

South Fork Mountain Lookout Road: This road is closed in order to control access. Visitors who wish to gain vehicular access can visit Park Headquarters Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to request the combination to the gate. Visitors must bring a photo identification and state their purpose for using the road.

Shasta Bally Road closed at gate above Sheep Camp

Due to weather the road will remain closed until further notice.

South Shore Drive

The roads received a significant amount of moisture in the last few storms and needs time to dry out. With more expected storms, the road will remain closed until further notice, we apologize for any inconvenience.

Brandy Creek Road

The roads received a significant amount of moisture in the last few storms and needs time to dry out. With more expected storms, the road will remain closed to vehicles until further notice. The Brandy Creek Falls trailhead is still accessible by foot via Brandy Creek Road or the Brandy Creek Trail. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Trail Closures:
Crystal Creek Water Ditch Trail: The Crystal Creek Water Ditch Trail was damaged by a high water event and is currently closed during the ongoing trail restoration project to provide for visitor safety.

James K. Carr Trail: The James K. Carr trail is closed a short distance beyond the base of Whiskeytown Falls. The closed section of trail is located adjacent to the falls, beyond the "Photographer’s Ledge" vista point. Hikers should not attempt to access the upper vista point "Artist's Ledge" until safety railings can be repaired.
