Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is temporarily closing two facilities to make repairs and upgrades. The Oak Bottom Boat Launch will be closed from September 8 through September 11, 2015. The ramps will reopen for the weekend. This closure is necessary as park facilities staff replace the courtesy boat launching docks at this location. Visitors are still able to launch their vessels at the Whiskey Creek Boat Launch and Brandy Creek Marina. All other facilities will remain open at Oak Bottom, including the campground, marina, and beach.
The Whiskey Creek Picnic Area will also close on September 8, 2015. This closure will remain in effect through the winter while park staff rehabilitate the site. When completed, the picnic area will have new shade structures and picnic sites that are more accessible to individuals with disabilities.
These site improvements are being funded through revenue from park entrance fees. Recreation fee dollars at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area have also been used to renovated all park primitive campgrounds and the Dry Creek group campsites, install ADA accessible walkways and access ramps, install campground bear-proof food lockers, maintain the kayak tour equipment and storage, install fishing piers, create and maintain miles of trails, replace the Oak Bottom wastewater treatment facility, and replace restroom facilities throughout the park.
