Picture Yourself in a National Park!

 

Join Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon, and

Wupatki National Monuments as We Celebrate National Park Week

 

 

FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA - All national parks, including Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon and Wupatki National Monuments, will waive entrance fees during National Park Week, April 21 through April 29, 2012. The theme for the week is, "Picture Yourself in a National Park!" Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Wupatki National Monuments will be celebrating National Park Week with a variety of fun, free, family activities.

The following events are planned for National Park Week:

Earth Day, Saturday, April 21 - 11:30 am - 4:00 pm.

Join us on the South Lawn of Flagstaff City Hall for a local celebration of sustainability! Stop by our booth at this great event.

100 Years, 100 Miles: Celebrating Arizona's Centennial - Monday, April 23-All Day Event

Join us as the Flagstaff Area National Monuments and local schools celebrate Arizona's 100 th year as the nation's 48 th state. Visitors and students will be carrying the Arizona state flag 100 or more miles along trails in the monuments. See a park ranger for more information and to pick up a state flag to carry with you on monument trails.

Junior Ranger Day - Saturday, April 28

Kids of all ages can learn about the past, and become a part of the future of the National Parks. Free Junior Ranger programs are available in the visitor centers of Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon, and Wupatki. Complete a Junior Ranger program at all three monuments to earn a special Flagstaff Area National Monuments Junior Ranger Certificate!

Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Wupatki "Sack Lunch with a Ranger" - Saturday, April 28, 12 pm - 1pm

Pack a lunch and bring the kids out to a picnic with a Park Ranger. Learn all about the monuments and the life of a National Park Service Ranger. After lunch we will celebrate National Parks with a Junior Ranger ceremony. Meet the ranger at any of the visitor centers at 12 noon.

 

Walnut Canyon National Monument is located 7.5 miles east of downtown Flagstaff via I-40 and can be reached at (928)526-3367 and on the web at www.nps.gov/waca.

Wupatki National Monument is 37 miles north of Flagstaff via Hwy 89, and can be reached at (928)679-2365 and www.nps.gov/wupa.

Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is located 12 miles north of Flagstaff via Hwy 89 and can be reached at (928)526-0502 and www.nps.gov/sucr.

All three monuments are open daily, except December 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
