INTERNATIONAL FALLS, MN –All snowmobile trails, ski trails, and snowshoe trails in the park are still open at this time. Grooming on all trails has finished for the season. The Kab –Ash and Rainy Lake Ice Roads are not being maintained. The Sphunge-Kab Sledding Hill has been closed for the season. With the overall lack of ice and the forecasted upcoming weather, conditions have the potential to deteriorate quickly, and park staff may need to make quick decisions to close this winter season safely.
Staked snowmobile trails are currently in fair condition. Be careful while traveling off trail on the frozen lake surface. Hardened snow drifts from the recent freeze/thaw can create an unwelcome surprise. While ice thickness is still good, many slush pockets and areas of slush have been found off of the staked trails.
Cross-country skis and snowshoes can still be rented, as conditions allow, and borrowed from the Rainy Lake Visitor Center during business hours, Wednesday –Sunday, 10:00 a.m. –4:30 p.m. The visitor center will be closed Monday and Tuesday until summer hours begin in late May.
This winter season, the most up-to-date information regarding Voyageurs' ice and trail conditions will be posted each Wednesday to the park's Facebook page (VoyageursNPS) and on the park's website at https://www.nps.gov/voya/planyourvisit/winter-ice-and-trail-conditions.htm.
