Contact: Lindsay Smith, 601-636-0583 On Saturday June 30, 2012 Vicksburg National Military Park will host its second Shape Up, Junior Ranger Event. This month's theme is "start your summer fitness with a Bang!" and will highlight the role of artillery during the campaign for Vicksburg. Junior Rangers are invited to participate in an artillery drill and watch the cannon firing before making the 0.5 mile hike to tour stop #13, the Railroad Redoubt. There the event will conclude with a ranger talk: "The Chicago Mercantile Battery, the Most Impressive Cannon Crew at Vicksburg." Shape Up, Junior Rangers will receive stamps for this event and are encouraged to bring their logbooks. This event is free of charge. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Living History site in front of the Visitor Center. The event begins at 9:00.
