The Rehabilitation of the Vanderbilt Mansion Phase Two
The restoration project is anticipated to be wrapped up by early December 2017. Most of the work should be accomplished though several final projects may continue into the new year. Interior refurnishing has begun and the facade should be clear of scaffolding by November 17th. Interior refurnishing will last into January as our curatorial staff works carefully to reinstall drapes, furnishing and rugs. As with any project on the scale of this one, delays are always possible and so these dates should be considered as goals we are working toward with an understanding that, depending on circumstances, they are subject to change.
We continue to offer public access to the Vanderbilt mansion during this project, highlighting the restoration project along with the Vanderbilt family history and discussions of life at an American Country House during the Gilded Age. Visitors still won’t see completely furnished interiors but more and more spaces are being brought online.
