This audio description tour of the visitor center exhibits can last up to three hours if you choose to listen to all of the menu items. General navigational directions are included; however, this is not a detailed mobility guide. The navigation directions follow a suggested path through the exhibits but this is not required. As you move through the museum, audio will be automatically triggered as you approach the next exhibit. At most locations, you will be offered the option of getting more detail through menus. <br /><br />The room you have entered is over 200 feet wide and 60 feet deep with the entrance located in the center of the front wall. As you enter, the information desk is directly ahead of you. To the left is the park store with a wide selection of books, tee shirts, and souvenirs. Restrooms are located on the far left wall in the store. The exhibits fill the right end of the space. Ceiling slants upward towards the back of the building, from about 10 feet in height at the entrance to 16 feet at the back. It is covered with long white acoustic tile strips that run from front to back with track lights extending down from the gaps between the strips. The flooring in the main part of the building is polished concrete, which changes to smooth carpet in the exhibit area. Several benches are available including one on either side of the entrance.<br /><br />On the wall to the right as you enter are trash and recycle bins and a bench. Farther along the wall is a counter with the Visitor Log and a graphic panel titled \"Valley Forge Park Alliance.”<br /><br />Valley Forge Park Alliance. 137 words.<br />At the bottom of this panel is a photograph of a small group of people posing at the base of a stone arch monument. Then move 20 feet straight into the room. The touchable floorplan will be on your right against an exhibit wall.<br /><br />The Valley Forge Encampment. 476 words.<br />This first exhibit area stretches along a 30-foot section of 10-foot-tall exhibit wall in the middle of the room. Near the center is the touchable floorplan of the exhibit area. To the right of the floorplan is an eight-foot-wide section of wall with a blue background. Lettering across the top reads, \"The Valley Forge Encampment, December 19, 1777 - June 19, 1778.\" Below that is a wood-textured panel with a quote from George Washington engraved on it that reads, \"Unless some great and capital change suddenly takes place ... this Army must inevitably ... Starve, dissolve, or disperse.\" Feel free to touch. Two other text panels are mounted on the wall below the quote. At the right end of the wall section stands a life-size model of a soldier.<br /><br />Above and to the left of the floorplan the wall is covered in a mural of a color illustration of a column of soldiers, four men wide, marching up a hill. There are a handful of women marching as well. The column extends from right to left and curves away into the distance in the background. The men are dressed in a variety of clothing, some in uniform jackets, others in tunics and leggings. Two men wearing uniforms on horseback ride on either side. <br /><br />Mounted to the mural wall above the floorplan is a 10-foot-wide translucent acrylic panel with a timeline showing the up- and downward trends of the Continental Army morale. Above the timeline and slightly to the left of the floorplan is another graphic panel titled \"The Road to Valley Forge.\"<br /><br />The wall stretches eight feet to the left, then continues in a curve away from you. At that point there is a one-foot-tall platform edged with a low rope barrier. On the platform is a life-size model of George Washington mounted on his distinctive white horse facing the information desk behind you. Along the side of the platform is a horizontal graphic panel titled \"George Washington.\"<br /><br />Behind you as you stand facing the touchable floorplan, six feet away from the platform with the model of George Washington, is a free-standing platform exhibit with large, two-sided graphic images of a group of people walking. Mounted across the middle are three cylinders that spin, showing quotations.<br /><br />On the floor sets of footprints lead from the floorplan and from the free-standing platform around the model of George Washington and into the exhibit area.<br /><br />For details on these exhibits, make a selection from the menu. To reach the next exhibit area from the touchable floorplan, move eight feet to the left to the platform with the model of George Washington then follow the curve around 20 feet to the horizontal panel. Turn your back to that panel and move 12 feet across the room and then another 12 feet to the left.<br /><br />Touchable Floorplan. 180 words.<br />This small panel is about one-foot square, and sits on a pedestal that narrows towards the bottom. Down the right side is the legend with labels in raised text and in braille. The entries are \"You are here,\" indicated by a star; \"Exhibits\" indicated by a grid pattern of small dots; \"Info desk,\" a circle with a question mark; \"Restrooms,\" with a square with man and woman silhouettes; \"Entrance,\" with an arrowhead; and \"Store,\" with a shopping bag. The floorplan is on the left. To explore the plan, start at the upper left corner of the panel and move down and slightly to the right. The entire upper part here is the exhibit area. You can feel the dotted grid marking exhibits and sold lines for the walls. Moving down just past midway you will find the star indicating your current location. Straight down from the star is the info desk with the entrance just to the right. Finally near the bottom is the park store and an arrow indicating the restrooms farther in that direction.<br /><br />Valley Forge Encampment Text. 235 words.<br />Text below the quote from Washington reads, \"Battle-weary soldiers and camp followers of all ages march into Valley Forge with little idea of what lay ahead or how much longer the war might last. The encampment at Valley Forge offers much-needed time for the Army to regroup and train during the winter of 1777-78, but the survival of the Continental Army is uncertain. Soldiers lack proper clothing, have little food, and battle deadly diseases. Smoke and putrid mud dominates the landscape. You may know who won the American Revolution, but how did the Continental Army, against all odds, triumph in the face of this adversity?\"<br /><br />Several words of this text are emphasized by being in a different color, including, Battle-weary, clothing, little food, diseases, smoke and putrid mud.<br /><br />To the left of this text is another panel which reads, \"A Call to Congress. As conditions for the Continental Army declined, General George Washington pleaded for help in a letter to the president of Congress on December 23, 1777. Beginning at his head, he wears a black cocked hat which sits on top of a blanket he wears as a shawl. His right hand is raised to hold the blanket tight around his neck.
