Polar Bear Star Party at Tuzigoot National Monument
Clarkdale, AZ – Join us Saturday, January 28th at Tuzigoot National Monument for a celebration of archeology and the night sky. Because the sky turns dark early and there is no heat distortion, winter is the best season for star gazing. We encourage visitors to dress for cold weather. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own mugs so they may enjoy free hot chocolate and hot apple cider! Our evening will begin at 6:00 pm with a presentation on archaeoastronomy.

On May 28th, 2016, The National Park Service and The Astronomers of the Verde Valley would like to invite the public to Tuzigoot National Monument to explore the skies. The star party will begin at 8:00pm with a presentation on Southern Sinagua Astronomy with Ken Zoll of the Verde Valley Archaeology Center. Telescopes will be open for public viewing from 8:30-10:00 pm. Arts and crafts activities will also be provided for our young astronomers. Night time activities are FREE!

Pile Burning at Tuzigoot National Monument
The National Park Service will burn piles of woody debris on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Tuzigoot National Monument, depending on weather conditions. The piles of debris consist of invasive plants removed during hazardous fuels reduction projects south and west of Tavasci Marsh over the past few years.

Montezuma Castle National Monument is one of 113 national parks selected to receive a 2015 field trip grant from the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks. The Ticket to Ride grant program is designed to provide the opportunity for youth to visit our local monuments by providing funds for transportation and activities.

Montezuma Castle National Monument Receives Field Trip Grant From The National Park Foundation
Montezuma Castle National Monument is one of 186 federal sites selected to receive a 2015 field trip grant from the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks. The grant is designed to provide funding for local fourth grade classes to visit Montezuma Castle, Montezuma Well and Tuzigoot national monuments and receive their free fourth grade annual park passes.

Ranger Lead Tavasci Marsh Nature Walks
Beginning on Sunday, February 21, 2016 and continuing through April 17, 2016 on the first and third Sunday of the month (February 21, March 6 and 20, April 3 and 17), the National Park Service will be providing free nature walks through the Tavasci Marsh wetland area. The walks will start at the Tuzigoot Visitor Center at 9:30, and will last approximately 2 hours.

Clarkdale, AZ – All National Parks are fee free on Monday, January 18, 2016 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr Day. The public are encouraged to treat the holiday as “A Day On, Not A Day Off”. Montezuma Well Outlet and Irrigation Ditch Closure
Clarkdale, AZ – Over the summer, the retaining wall below the outlet trail at Montezuma Well was determined by park staff to be unstable and therefore unsafe for our visitors and staff. Since then, we have been working with park and regional staff to come up with potential treatment options and costs for repairing the area.

Clarkdale, AZ - Harry Seavey will present a special flute concert at Tuzigoot National Monument on Sunday, September 27, 2015, under the fall harvest moon and final lunar eclipse for 2015. The performance will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and the event is fee-free.

Camp Verde and Clarkdale, AZ - Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot National Monuments invites all 4th grade students to visit the parks for free, as part of the White House’s new “Every Kid in a Park” program. Starting September 1, 2015, 4th grade students can now go to www.doi.gov/everykid/ to complete an activity and obtain a free annual entry pass to more than 2,000 federal recreation areas, including national parks.

Camp Verde Arizona – Montezuma Castle/Tuzigoot National Monument is one of 28 national parks selected to receive a 2014 Park Stewards grant from the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks. Our Natural Resource project educates youth on native plant identification, propagation, and restoration of our native areas, by working directly with two local high schools.

Demonstration at Tuzigoot National Monument Highlights Cultural and Artistic Innovation from Lands to the South
CAMP VERDE, Ariz. – Two cultural demonstrators from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community will exhibit the techniques used to make traditional paddle and anvil ceramics and etched marine shell jewelry and figurines on Saturday, March 15, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tuzigoot National Monument, Clarkdale, AZ. Ron Carlos and Jacob Butler continue to make artistic creations in the manner of the Hohokam people of southern Arizona, using ancient skills and hand-collected materials.

Make and Play Your Own Native American Flute at Montezuma Castle
On Saturday, December 28, Don Decker from the Yavapai-Apache Nation will be at Montezuma Castle National Monument, showing how the Dilzhe’e or Western Apache people make traditional reed flutes. From 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., while the materials last, Mr. Decker will show visitors how to make and play their own reed flutes.

Interagency Summer Workshops about the Verde River for K-12 Educators
This summer, two workshops, one called "The Verde River: Then, Now and Tomorrow" and the other called "Hidden Water: Groundwater and the Verde River," will be presented during July 10-13, 2012 for K-12 teachers. Educators will be able to choose to attend one or both of the workshops which will count toward continuing education units.

That spending supported 524 jobs in the local area.

Military kids from across Arizona spent Saturday, December 10, creating podcasts to tell their own stories linking resiliency and other life skills with the people who lived in the prehistoric pueblo at Tuzigoot. The event, Stories with a View, was created in partnership with Arizona Operation: Military Kids, a University of Arizona Cooperative Extension 4-H and Department of Defense program, and Tuzigoot National Monument.
