Vision Statement

The NPS Career Academy provides an environment for professional development and lifelong learning to promote excellence in all employees, and supports a broadly diverse and dispersed workforce through interaction and engagement.


The National Park Service is comprised of nearly 400 field units, support centers, and central offices across the continental U.S. and beyond, to Alaska, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands. With a workforce so dispersed, some employees find themselves geographically and professionally isolated – disconnected from each other and often unaware of the resources available to gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their work.

The Career Academy serves as an NPS Source for Learning Resources, providing a variety of vetted information sources for use by NPS employees: NPS laws, policies and procedures, manuals and reference books, quick references, databases, digital libraries, blended learning opportunities, coursework, definitive sources, the latest articles on various topics, and more.

The Career Academy is accessed through a Web-based Training Portal, spearheaded by Career Field Training Managers within the WASO Office of Learning and Development. It provides employees access to a wide variety of formal and informal learning opportunities offered by the National Park Service and other professional organizations to meet their career development needs.

The Career Academy is a Community that connects employees within the NPS to provide guidance, share information, and support one another.  It also connects employees with professionals outside the service to keep current with the latest developments and best practices in their fields.
