Big Free-tailed Bat

Big Free-tailed Bat
Nyctinomops macrotis

No photograph available

Wingspan: 17 – 18”; Body length: 3 – 3 1/2”
Diet: primarily moths

The big free-tailed bat is found in rocky country where it roosts in crevices high up on cliff faces. These bats are powerful flyers, and strays have been found as far away as British Columbia.

This bat is of special concern, since it is uncommon throughout most of its range. When or where breeding occurs is unknown. The only probable maternity colony was located in 1937.
