Tram ticket inventory is currently limited due to reduced capacity with COVID-19 protocols. Tram tickets will sell out early and often. Advance ticket purchases, at gatewayarch.com, are highly recommended.

Gaze at over 43,000 tons of concrete and steel making an iconic, elegant arc 63 stories high into the Midwest sky. Shaped by the inspired design of Finnish-America architect Eero Saarinen, the Gateway Arch celebrates the westward expansion of the United States and the pioneers who made it possible. Since its completion in 1965, the monument has taken millions of visitors on the trip to the top to enjoy stunning views stretching up to 30 miles to the east and west.

Alert: Bi-State Development, which operates the tram, requires face coverings for all Gateway Arch tram riders, ages 2 and up. * There is a narrow exception to the mask mandate that includes a person with a disability who cannot wear or safely wear a mask, because of the disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. To request a reasonable accommodation on the Tram Ride to the Top, contact the ADA Coordinator at (314)982-1525 for information about the process to seek an exemption. Requests must be processed in advance. Please submit your request 72 hours in advance when at all possible.

Bi-State Development, which operates the tram, requires face coverings for all Gateway Arch tram riders, ages 2 and up, with no exceptions.

  • Face coverings must fully cover the guest’s mouth and nose, should be secured under the chin, and fit snugly against the sides of the face.
  • Face coverings must be worn for the duration of the tram experience (45-60 minutes).
  • Plastic face shields may be worn, but a properly fitting face covering must also be worn underneath.
  • Guests may bring their own face coverings or face coverings and face shields are available for purchase in The Arch Store.
  • Social distancing is not possible at all times of the tram experience, therefore tram guests unable to wear face coverings are encouraged to visit at a later date.

These policies are in place for the safety of our guests and employees. Those not in compliance will not be permitted to take the Tram Ride to the Top at this time. We appreciate your full cooperation.

This activity is suitable for all ages, but minors must have an adult present. 

Unaccompanied Minor Tram Policy: Any unaccompanied tram rider who presents a child’s ticket must have an adult, at least 18 years of age, with them to provide permission to ride alone. Children under the age of 10 may not ride unaccompanied.
Individual ticket prices vary by date of visit check www.gatewayarch.com for the prices for your visit date. Ticket prices start at $12 for adults 16 & over, $8 for children 3-15 and $9 for those with the America the Beautiful Pass.

Accessibility Information
The Tram Ride to the Top of the Gateway Arch is not fully accessible for guests with mobility impairments, as no wheelchairs, scooters or strollers are permitted on the Observation Deck. To reach the top and return, you must be able to manage at least 96 steps, divided into six flights, and you may need to stand for 30­–60 minutes. No seating or restrooms are located at the top of the Arch.
