Park Protector - All Grades
- Grade Level:
- Upper Elementary: Third Grade through Fifth Grade
- Social Studies
This program is perfect for a class or large group planning to visit a National Park Service site. While based around Zion National Park, this program is applicable as an introduction to visiting any national park site. Students will learn about different “Leave No Trace” ethics while virtually visiting the park and being guided by a ranger. They will discuss each principle with the ranger, and talk about real-life applications. The students will learn about Zion and the southwest as they gain the skills needed to be protectors of their parks. Students will then complete a short activity sheet (with the difficulty level of the activity based on their age level), and then take a pledge. They will then be designated as “Park Protectors”.
Leave No Trace Principles addressed in this program:
· Respect other visitors
· Trash your Trash
· Respect wildlife
· Know before you go
· Leave what you find
· Stay on the trail
Students who have completed this program will gain confidence and skills that will allow them to conscientiously visit national park sites.
