Background

Being Processed is a high school level self-guided activity that allows students to understand through the experiences of Russian-born immigrant Abraham Cohen's procession through Ellis Island. Students will learn about the reasons Russian immigrants were seeking citizenship in the United States just prior to World War I and participate in role playing at Inspector and immigrant. Finally, students will take part in the Board of Special Inquiry where immigrants were subjected to a list of questions about their personal lives and their reasons for coming to America.
